English Environment & Climate Vocabulary
Group the words by what they describe: the natural world (nature, forest, ocean, species), the climate and extreme weather (climate, warming, flood, drought), energy and pollution (energy, fuel, carbon, waste, plastic), and protecting it all (protect, save, recycle, sustainable). That gives you the core language for talking about the environment.
Level: B2. The environment is one of the most common topics in exams, the news and everyday conversation. This page gives you the environment and climate words you need, grouped by what they describe, each with a plain meaning and a short example you can copy.
By the end of this page you can…
…talk about the natural world, describe climate change and extreme weather, discuss energy and pollution, and say what people do to protect the planet.
How this list was chosen
Every word here comes from the English frequency list (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), which ranks words by how often they appear in a large collection of everyday subtitles. From that list we kept the environment and climate words a B2 learner needs and grouped them by theme rather than by rank. The Rank column is the word’s real position in the list — a lower number means the word is more common. Several key topic words (such as renewable and sustainable) sit low on the list but are essential here, so they stay in.
