English Nature & Geography Vocabulary
This page teaches the core English words for the natural world and geography, grouped so related words stick together: landforms like mountain and valley, water like river and coast, plus directions and map terms. Learn them in short sentences, not as a bare list.
Level: B1. The natural world comes up in travel talk, the news, exams and small talk about the weather and the view. This page gathers the most useful English nature and geography words, grouped by meaning so related words stick together, each with a plain definition and a short example you can copy.
By the end of this page you can…
…name common landforms, bodies of water, plants and parts of the landscape in English, give and follow simple directions on a map, and talk about a place you have visited.
How this list was chosen
Every word here comes from the English frequency list (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), which ranks words by how often they appear in a large collection of everyday subtitles. From that list we kept the nature and geography words a B1 learner meets most and grouped them by meaning instead of by rank, so you learn river, lake, stream together rather than scattered. The Rank column is the word’s real position in the list — lower means more common.
