English Transport & Travel Vocabulary
These are the English words you need to travel and get around. Learn the vehicles first (car, bus, train, plane), then the places (station, airport, road, street), then the words for a trip (ticket, seat, flight, journey). A small set gets you from door to door.
Level: A2. Travel vocabulary is some of the most useful English you can learn: it gets you to work, around a new city and through an airport. This page gives you the core transport and travel words, grouped by vehicle, place and trip, each with a plain definition and a short example you can copy.
By the end of this page you can…
…name the main ways to travel, say where you catch them and buy a ticket, and use the right little words (by car, on the bus, take a taxi) without stopping to think.
How this list was chosen
Every word here comes from the English frequency list (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), which ranks words by how often they appear in a large collection of everyday subtitles. We kept the transport and travel words an A2 learner actually needs and grouped them by use rather than by rank, so you learn car, bus, train together instead of in scattered order. The Rank column is the word’s real position in the frequency list — lower means more common.
