English Kitchen & Tableware Vocabulary
These are the English words you need for cooking and eating at home. Learn the room and the furniture first (kitchen, table, cupboard), then the things you eat with (plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork, spoon), then pots, pans and appliances. A small set covers most meals.
Level: A2. The kitchen is where a lot of daily English happens, so these words come up constantly: setting the table, cooking a meal, washing up. This page gives you the core kitchen and tableware words, grouped by where you use them, each with a plain definition and a short example you can copy.
By the end of this page you can…
…name the main things in a kitchen and on the dinner table, say what each one is for in a simple sentence, and handle the few British/American differences without getting stuck.
How this list was chosen
Every word here comes from the English frequency list (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), which ranks words by how often they appear in a large collection of everyday subtitles. We kept the kitchen and tableware words an A2 learner actually needs and grouped them by use rather than by rank, so you learn plate, fork, spoon together instead of in scattered order. The Rank column is the word’s real position in the frequency list — lower means more common.
